Standing Ovation for “Yankee Bajan” premier at the historic Dock Street Theatre

Linda Parris-Bailey’s play with music, “Yankee Bajan” directed by Dahlak Brathwaite made its  stateside premier as part of the 2023 MOJA Arts Festival on Saturday, September 30 resulting in a standing ovation. In attendance were long-time friends and families of the MOJA Arts Festival, representatives from civic leadership, kindred cultural institutions and organizations, city government, college theater departments, members and leaders of Gullah Geechee communities and regionally acclaimed artists.

Nakeisha Daniels, Assistant Professor of African American Theater and Performance, remarked “I loved the celebration of Bajan culture and interwoven live music and dance. The spirit of the piece and essence of the message was lovely.”
