Gospel at the Gaillard
September 28 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Charleston Gaillard Center
Expertly directed by Michael Brown, this powerful seven-piece Gospel group (part of a choir of over 20 vocalists from Charleston) offers a show full of nuances and spiritual suggestions which, from the most genuine African-American Gospel tradition, is enriched with expressions and dynamic harmonies through which traditional songs and spirituals mix with contemporary sounds with taste and creativity.
F.O.C.U.S. (Followers of Christ Upholding Standards) was born in 1997 under the leadership of Wayne Ravenell who, in 2005, passed the title to his successor Michael Brown, minister of music and his assistant who still leads the group.
In March 2005 they recorded their first live project “The Heart of a Worshiper” imbued with their creative style and their expressive and versatile musicality.
In 2008, it was the turn of “Sound of Victory” and, in 2012, of “Good Time”, an album that keeps the band’s characteristic sound alive and to which is added the pleasant presence of some exceptional guests Tasha Cobbs ( “Yes Lord”), Timiney Figueroa (“What A Friend”) and Josiah Martin (“Angel’s Cry”).
But these extraordinary young musicians never stop and, in 2014, the single “Free” arrives with Joshua Roger which, alongside the single “Excellent” from the album “Good Time” is achieving great success with the public and critics.
