Veteran playwright Linda Parris-Bailey, who wrote the play “Yankee Bajan” which is part of the theater offerings for the 2023 MOJA Arts Festival, visited James Simons Public Montessori School on Friday, September 29. Parris-Bailey worked with a group of 7th and 8th grade filmmakers in collaboration with local arts organizations Yo Art and TINYisPOWERFUL. With more than 50 years of professional experience to offer during the 60 minute class period, she focused on working with the youth toward script writing and performance with vocal projection exercises, personal storytelling and writing monologues.
The MOJA Arts Festival is a multi-disciplinary festival produced annually and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee, an all-volunteer community arts and cultural group.
Additional assistance and guidance is provided by the less formal networks of the MOJA Advisory Board, a group of civic leaders who assist with fundraising and advocacy, and the Friends of MOJA patron circle, representing individual and corporate donors.
