Don’t miss your chance to see “Yankee Bajan” on Sunday, October 1 at 3pm.
Linda Parris-Bailey’s play with music, “Yankee Bajan” directed by Dahlak Brathwaite made its stateside premier as part of the 2023 MOJA Arts Festival on Saturday, September 30 resulting in a standing ovation. In attendance were long-time friends and families of the MOJA Arts Festival, representatives from civic leadership, kindred cultural institutions and organizations, city government, college theater departments, members and leaders of Gullah Geechee communities and regionally acclaimed artists.
Nakeisha Daniels, Assistant Professor of African American Theater and Performance, remarked “I loved the celebration of Bajan culture and interwoven live music and dance. The spirit of the piece and essence of the message was lovely.”

The MOJA Arts Festival is a multi-disciplinary festival produced annually and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee, an all-volunteer community arts and cultural group.
Additional assistance and guidance is provided by the less formal networks of the MOJA Advisory Board, a group of civic leaders who assist with fundraising and advocacy, and the Friends of MOJA patron circle, representing individual and corporate donors.
