Guitarist and producer Dr. Adam Hawley has emerged as a celebrated and innovative artist, composer, and bandleader. Handpicked by Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, he debuted on the legendary Kalimba Music label. Now leading his own label, MBF Entertainment, Adam has released six albums and produced an impressive 17 Billboard #1 hits. His accolades include Mediabase Artist of the Year in 2024, Billboard Song of the Year in 2022 and 2020, and a #1 album in sales according to Nielsen in 2020.

After their remarkable 2023 presentation of Drumfolk, Step Afrika! returns with The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence. This work depicts the journey of African Americans from the rural South to the industrial North, fleeing Jim Crow and racial violence in the early 1900s. Inspired by Jacob Lawrence’s 60-panel “The Migration Series” (1940-41), the award-winning dance company uses the series’ imagery and colors to convey this story through rhythms and movement.

Gullah Collective ignites the stage with the soul of Gullah Geechee heritage, blending powerful vocals, driving percussion, and electrifying call-and-responses with the spirit of jazz. With high-energy rhythms and fresh takes on traditional spirituals, their performance is an unforgettable celebration of Lowcountry culture that will have audiences clapping, moving, and uplifted. Since their sold-out debut in June 2025 at Piccolo Spoleto, Gullah Collective has become one of the most talked about ensembles in Charleston, lighting up social media and following the release of their single, Everywhere, hitting local airwaves and digital playlists. MOJA Arts Festival is delighted to present Gullah Collective for a not-to-be-missed night at Charleston’s Historic Dock Street Theatre.

Morehouse in the Lowcountry Scholarship Weekend will feature a powerful performance by the renowned Morehouse College Glee Club, presented in partnership with the MOJA Arts Festival and powered by the Morehouse College National Alumni Association Lowcountry & Carolinas Chapters. Under the esteemed direction of Dr. David Morrow, the Glee Club stands as the premier singing organization of Morehouse College, celebrated for its excellence in choral performance, discipline, dedication, and brotherhood. With a legacy of national and international tours, the Glee Club continues to uphold its mission of maintaining a high standard of musical excellence. Through the unwavering commitment of its members and the visionary leadership of its directors, the Glee Club honors its rich tradition while striving toward even greater accomplishments that secure its future and inspire generations to come.
MOJA Arts Festival is an annual celebration of Black arts and culture and the related artistic contributions to the world, especially through African American and Caribbean legacies.
The multi-disciplinary festival is produced and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee, an all-volunteer community arts and cultural group.
