Demetrius Bing is a native Charlestonian raised in Union Heights.
Currently working and residing in Ladson, South Carolina, Bing is a self-taught artist who blends abstraction with elements of Pop art and street art, including work inspired by the late Jean-Michel Basquiat. His highly personal practice draws on moments of joy, trauma, resilience and growth encountered during his youth and continuing to the present day.
Bing’s work has recently been seen in Charleston at The Gibbes Museum’s “Art Charleston” Artisan Fair and Art Fete at The Space. Later this autumn, he will mount his first solo exhibition, “Full Circle,” at The Drop In (North Charleston Naval Complex) on Saturday, November 2.
The 2024 MOJA Arts Festival poster features Bing’s painting, “Sometimes I Cry,” which he states employs a range of colors to symbolize the darkness he has experienced in life, while starting to break free in a new found love of art. For more, follow @artofbing on social media channels.

The MOJA Arts Festival is a multi-disciplinary festival produced annually and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee, an all-volunteer community arts and cultural group.
Additional assistance and guidance is provided by the less formal networks of the MOJA Advisory Board, a group of civic leaders who assist with fundraising and advocacy, and the Friends of MOJA patron circle, representing individual and corporate donors.
