2022 Festival Poster

This year, the Festival took place from September 29 - October 9, 2022.

MOJA Festival 2022 featured exquisite dance by Harambee Dance Company as they presented “Origin” at the Dock Street Theatre and collaborated with Annex Dance Company for a presentation at the James Island Arts and Cultural Center. Lowcountry Voices took down the house with “Hymnology II” at Greater Luke AME while the “Back Home Gospel Hour” radiated through Second Presbyterian Church.

Musical offerings included An Evening of Jazz with Da’rrell Ravenell and Friends at the Dock Street while local sensation Charlton Singleton and Friends presented WonderVerse: The Music of Stevie Wonder at Festival Hall. Other highlights included Joey Morant – All That Jazz, Inc. concert, Oh Happy Day was presented as part of the Sound of Charleston at Circular Congregational Church, and HALO graced us with Cuba dentro de un piano at the Dock Street Theatre.

Lady in White productions presented their annual “When I First Remember” play. The Charleston County Public Library and MOJA officially kicked off the NEA Big Read for African born writer Yaa Gyasi’s novel Homegoing on Sept. 29, 2022 and will offer community programs and special events through March 2023.
