2019

2019 Festival Poster

MOJA Festival 2019 highlighted the diverse artistry of African American and Caribbean artists.  Featuring a night with Quiana Parler and Friends at Memminger Auditorium, moving gallery exhibitions by Synthia Saint James and Andrew Feiler at City Gallery, and partnering with Black Ink: The Charleston African-American Book Festival. 2019 brought us theatre productions from Charleston

Black Theatre with Southern Boys, PURE Theatre with Choir Boy, Miss Dessa from Art Forms and Theatre Concepts and Real Woman Blues written and directed by Samelia Adams. PURE Theatre also brought back their popular Last Rites for a one-night performance.

The Reggae Block Dance featured Mighty Joshua with the Zion 5 and Keith Porter whose music was accompanied by ethnic and international food vendors.  Other musical events including the popular Gospel Series at Trinity United Methodist Church, College of Charleston Gospel Choir and Soul in the Garden with Zandrina Dunning and Christian Smalls at the Gibbes Museum of Art.

The poster art is by Synthia Saint James and was designed by Marcus Amaker.
