The 2018 MOJA Arts Festival opened with the colorful street parade leading to a reception where artists and patron alike mingled and celebrated the 35th year of the festival. The Dubplates and Future Fambo rang in the weekend at our Reggae Block Dance.
Theatre brought us Debutante of the Season from Art Forms and Theatre Concepts and Sweat from PURE Theatre. The Lowcountry’s Gullah culture was highlighted through performances by Lady in White Productions and KJ Kearney’s Red Rice Day Panel Discussions at City Gallery. Musical performances celebrated Gospel Sounds of Millennials, the environmental works of contemporary composer John Luther Adams, the journey of hymns through history and First Class Band on the water. The festival closed out with our Finale in Hampton Park featuring the Hot Buttered Soul with the sounds of classic soul and R&B.
The poster art is by John Christopher Wright II and was designed by Marcus Amaker.
