2008 Festival Poster

This year, the Festival took place from September 25 - October 5, 2008.

MOJA Arts Festival highlights included:

  • Kirk Whalum, performing in An Evening of Jazz Under the Stars With Kirk Whalum at The Cistern on the campus of the College of Charleston; John Street Jazz presented Ann Caldwell and her ensemble LooseFitt in concert;
  • Pearl Cleage read excerpt from her new work We Speak Our Names for the MOJA Literary Corner,
  • Dallas Black Dance Theatre from Dallas, Texas performed in the MOJA Dance Gala,
  • Art Forms & Theatre Concepts produced “Eubie” and Footlight Players Inc. presented Crowns for the Theatre Series,
  • the Gospel Concert included such names as Lynn-Marie Boon, Joy Pryor, Rev. Randolph Miller, Anthony Burke, Mario Desassure, Javetta Campbell, Christal Brown-Gibson, and Martha Rhodes,
  • Wilfred Delphin and Valerie Francis performed classical works for voice and piano for MOJA’s Classical Encounter,
  • and the featured R&B Concert Artist at the Family Circle Tennis Centre was Will Downing and Angie Stone.

The Visual Arts lineup for 2008 featured works by the MOJA Poster Artist, Jonathan Green; a Juried Art Exhibition; and the featured exhibit, “The Future is on the Table.”
